Background of the Study

The digital transformation of supply chain management (SCM) tools has revolutionized industries, especially manufacturing, by improving efficiency, transparency, and decision-making. Digital supply chain management tools like Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP) systems, supply chain analytics, and cloud-based software enable companies to track inventory, optimize production schedules, and enhance communication with suppliers (Kharat et al., 2023). In Kwara State, manufacturing firms are beginning to adopt these digital tools to streamline their supply chain processes, but there is limited research on their effectiveness. This study aims to evaluate the efficiency of digital supply chain management tools in improving operational performance in manufacturing firms in Kwara State.

Statement of the Problem

Many manufacturing firms in Kwara State have adopted digital supply chain management tools, yet the extent to which these tools have enhanced operational efficiency remains unclear. Some firms report challenges in fully utilizing the tools, which can be attributed to issues like poor integration with legacy systems, lack of training, or high implementation costs. This study will investigate the effectiveness of digital SCM tools and identify the barriers to their successful adoption in Kwara State's manufacturing sector.

Objectives of the Study

  1. To assess the impact of digital supply chain management tools on operational efficiency in manufacturing firms in Kwara State.
  2. To identify the challenges faced by manufacturing firms in implementing and using digital SCM tools.
  3. To propose strategies to overcome the challenges and enhance the effectiveness of digital SCM tools.

Research Questions

  1. How do digital supply chain management tools impact operational efficiency in manufacturing firms in Kwara State?
  2. What challenges do manufacturing firms face in implementing and utilizing digital SCM tools?
  3. What strategies can be adopted to enhance the effectiveness of digital SCM tools in manufacturing firms?

Research Hypotheses

  1. Digital supply chain management tools significantly improve operational efficiency in manufacturing firms in Kwara State.
  2. Challenges such as integration issues and training gaps significantly hinder the successful implementation of digital SCM tools.
  3. Proposed strategies will significantly improve the adoption and effectiveness of digital SCM tools.

Scope and Limitations of the Study

The study focuses on manufacturing firms in Kwara State that have adopted or are in the process of adopting digital SCM tools. Limitations include potential biases in self-reported performance and access restrictions to certain company data.

Definitions of Terms

Digital Supply Chain Management Tools: Software applications and technologies used to manage and optimize supply chain processes, including inventory tracking, procurement, and logistics management.
